More tools to understand your expenses…

February 2nd, 2007 by Shashank

We have rolled out a couple new features which should make managing and understanding your shared expenses easier.

Monthly statements

Keeping track of your monthly expenses has just become easier. With Buxfer’s transaction filters, you can now view monthly summaries of expenses you had and the money others owe you. You can also filter transactions based on your tags and based on other participants. As always, let us know if you like the new view and what else we can do to improve it further.

Attach documents to Transactions

For users who need to itemize their expenses, Buxfer now has an easy solution. Attach copies of your bills to Buxfer transactions so that there is no shred of doubt about whether you entered information correctly or not!

What is the future of Buxfer in a world where the PayPal giant has entered the same market through PayPal mobile?

Hi there, this looks like a great tool. I’m testing it and I’m trying to persuade my housemates to join, so we could easily track expenses. However I found one major drawback. Buxfer doesn’t really support cyrillic characters. When I entered the group name in Bulgarian (which uses a cyrillic alphabet), every char got transformed into some percent sign stuff.

zbrox: We are glad to see Buxfer is useful to you. And sad to find that we don’t support cyrillic characters. We will try to get support for international characters very soon into the site. Stay tuned!

Captain Jack: Paypal mobile is a complimentary tool to Buxfer. With Buxfer, you can keep track of your shared (as well as personal) expenses, and with Paypal mobile, you can settle them. We do plan on integrating Buxfer with services like Paypal mobile, in the future…

I have recently found Buxfer via the lifehacker website. I really like the clean appearance without the general financial jargon and structure found on many other applications. I was just about to transfer my excel expenditure spreadsheet to Buxfer when I noticed that there is no support for setting spending targets on tags or contacts or groups, which I find crucial for monitoring my progress through out the month and making future spending decisions. I tried to create a work around by setting up a fake contact who loaned me my target amount as a frequent payment and then I paid them back through my transactions, but this proved difficult to implement. So unfortunately I am at the point of having to put Buxfer on the back burner until such features are implemented.

its a great tool I have just started using it.

    cheers
