1-click transaction reporting, automatic tagging and tag sharing
March 14th, 2007 by Shashank- A slick and efficient UI for reporting transactions: Reporting transactions has become faster and simpler. The common case of one guy paying the bill, and 3-4 guys sharing equally can now be reported with a single click.
- Auto-tag your transactions: No need to manually tag each transaction. With our new AutoTag Wizard, you can set up simple rules which determine when particular tags will be applied to transactions (e.g., apply the tag ‘utilities’ to all transactions matching ‘elec bill’) So you don’t need to think about tags everytime you enter a new transaction. More tags, less work, better categorization of transactions, and a better analysis of expenses. At Buxfer, you can have your cake and eat it too! Read more about this feature
- Share tags with other participants: Help each other categorize transactions with shared tags. Type in shared:tagName to share tags with friends who were involved in that transaction. Read more about this feature
- And there’s more stuff: Set your default timezone to where you stay (and not where our server stays!). Upload attachments to transactions via URLs. Plus a bunch of UI improvements.
We want to make it really easy to report expenses, really easy to categorize them, and really easy to analyze them. Hope you find these features useful. And more importantly, enjoy using them!

The auto-tag feature is great indeed. Just found out about it this morning on the website itself and created auto-tags for the basic monthly bills. Great idea! I’ll try out the shared tags. Seems like a good idea too. Can you refuse to tag a transaction as something that the other person has decided to tag when they use “shared:”? Thanks.

If a participant does not like that tag, (s)he can always delete it without affecting anybody else! It just behaves like a normal tag afterwards…

Hi
I have setup few auto tags. but they are not working.
when somebody in my group enter a shared expense for “pizza”, it should automatically go to “food” but not working that way.
When I do a “Test Search” in that auto tag, i get that particular entry.
