Sync your bank accounts with Buxfer

October 1st, 2007 by Ashwin

Manually downloading statements from your bank accounts and uploading them to Buxfer is a chore. So, Buxfer now supports automatic synchronization of your Buxfer account with that of your financial institution.

Of course, security is the first and most important concern. All Buxfer does is download your statements from your bank (as if you were downloading them) and then uploads them to your Buxfer account. We do not store your username, password or any other sensitive financial data ever. As such, you will need to re-enter your password everytime you synchronize your account. We believe this is a reasonable trade-off at this stage between convenience and security.

This feature is in an early BETA phase; so we only support very few financial institutions right now: Bank of America, Citibank credit cards, US Bank and American Express credit cards. We hope to expand this rapidly to cover a wide range of financial institutions.

If you’d like your favorite financial institution to be supported soon, please contact us. The institutions which we support first will largely be determined by the requests we receive from our users. Also, if you are a programmer who has already written a “downloader script” for your bank, we’d love to incorporate it within our infrastructure if you so wish.

    Hello,

it would be great if you could add Societe Generale, a French bank :
    https://particuliers.societegenerale.fr/

In order to login, there is a box on the left “ACCES ABONNES”.

Not sure you could do anything but it would be nice

how does these “downloader scripts” work?
Is it just a login and download by the script on the online banking of my bank?

  4. Ashwin Says:

@marks: The “downloader script” I refered to above would do the following things: (a) login to the online banking site of your bank, (b) find out the location of downloadable statements, and (c) download the statements.

    3. Barclays - http://www.barclays.co.uk
    4. Lloyds - http://www.lloydstsb.com

    Hi

All my tags are in the same color. How do I change this? :( Earlier there used to be different colors for each tag.

  8. Prashant Says:

    Hi

I can’t any change in my buxfer account.
Also, it will be great if citibank debit or suvidha account can be included in this.

  9. Brendan Nee Says:

I’d love to see support for Mechanics bank, my favorite bank in the Bay Area. http://mechanicsbank.com. Its got an authentication process which has kept it from working with sites like mint.com, but accounts with the Mechanics bank do sync with quicken.

  10. Shashank Says:

@Phoenix: Do you mean the tags after you click ‘Folder View’ on the manage tags page, or the tags after you click ‘Expense Analysis’?

The tags are a different color only on the Expense Analysis page, because there they serve as a legend for the pie chart slices. In the folder view, they will just show up as their normal orange self.

    Please add Citibank (banking)!

  14. Law Says:

Your service looks like something I’ve wanted for a long long time, but I’m in the UK and as far as I can gather there isn’t going to be any sync added for the major UK banks (I’m using Natwest and Abbey atm).

Is there any plans to implement these banks? I hope so! :)

  15. Phil Says:

My vote’s in for syncing to at the very least the major UK banks; I use Natwest. :)

  16. Vito Botta Says:

I really cannot understand why major UK banks are simply ignored by the vast majority of these services. Uhm.
Does anybody know services which work with HSBC UK for example?
    Thanks in advance :(
