Your private data stays right under your nose!
December 16th, 2007 by ShashankA few months back, we added the ability to automatically synchronize your financial accounts. However, it required you to type in your login details every single time you wanted to synchronize your data. It was hard work for the users, but a price had to be paid for security. It is our policy to never store sensitive user information in our database.
But today, we have achieved the best of both worlds. Your private data stays completely under your control, and yet you don’t need to type it out again and again!
Buxfer is now capable of using the Google Gears extension to store your private data offline, i.e., on the hard disk of your computer. Subject to your authorization, Buxfer can access data stored in your Google Gears database and authenticate you with your financial institution. You can delete this data or make it unavailable to Buxfer absolutely anytime you wish. After all, its stored right under your nose!
Google Gears is available for Firefox and Internet Explorer, and we highly recommend that you install it on your computer. For installation instructions, please visit the Google Gears website.

I have Google Gears installed on my PC. I don’t see buxfer using it; I mean to say I can’t see any mention of Gears inside buxfer account, nor am I able to access it offline. Do I need to make any configurations to make buxfer work with Gears?

Jeenu,
You need to create a financial account for which we support automatic synchronization. Your login credentials will be stored in the Gears DB if you choose to. Buxfer doesn’t use Gears to store any other data.
While synchronizing your financial account, be sure to select the ‘Save information offline on my computer using Google Gears’ checkbox when you login. Thereafter, your login details will be stored in the Gears database.
If you need help with this, please send us an email at support [AT] buxfer [DOT] com

Will Buxfer work (storing data locally) with Safari on a Mac?

Raj,
As far as I know, Google Gears is not compatible with Safari. So you’d have to wait until either Google starts supporting it, or we release our own browser add-on. The latter won’t happen until at least another 3-4 months, since we have several other features prioritized ahead of it.
Of course, if you try Firefox on Mac, you should be able to use this feature without any problems.

Would be great if I could tag my transactions offline on my train rides home.
