Updated iPhone interface, weekly analysis reports and more…

February 13th, 2008 by Ashwin

We have upgraded our iPhone interface significantly taking it one step closer to being a complete first-class citizen. You can now perform arbitrary edits to your transactions. You can add and delete tags, accounts, budgets, contacts, etc. Most importantly, you can even auto-sync your bank accounts so you have your latest financial status available to you no matter where you go!

You will also notice that navigation (back-button) is much smoother and you don’t have to “back track” as much as you had to. Even more updates will follow shortly, but we must make sure we don’t destroy the simplicity and elegance of the interface.

We have also added an option for receiving weekly analysis reports — including the tasty pie-chart — for your week’s transactions. Just another tidbit to help you stay on top of your finances.

In other news, we are really glad our users are liking the enhancements and writing about it. Thanks, Aseem! To all our users - please continue to share your thoughts and feature requests / annoyances with us. Your feedback drives our product as much as our vision does!

I’m not sure if it’s only me or not, but whenever I try to add a tag to a transaction, using the suggested tags (the ones that pop-up) it crashes opera. I’m still running 1.1.1, so that might have something to do with it, but it basically renders the iPhone version useless to me.

    Love the product..

Oh and I wish that future dated transactions would reflect in your account total. Or at least have an option to show it either way. I like to do my bills ahead of time, and would like that to show in the total so I don’t spend that money before it’s taken out. As far as I’m concerned it’s already spent, even if it’s not coming out for another week, if you catch my drift.

Dave: thanks for the iPhone bug report. I hope you meant “crashes Safari” instead of “crashes opera”? I haven’t been able to reproduce Safari crashes on 1.1.3 but some other users have corroborated this report as well. I will look into it.

A couple days ago, we started showing two kinds of account balances: Available Balance (which accounts for pending transactions) and Ledger Balance (which doesn’t). However, none of them account for future-dated transactions. That said, we are working on a cash flow projection tool which will hopefully encompass your need.

Haha. Yea I meant Safari, not Opera. Sorry about that.

The Available Balance vs Ledger Balance is definitely headed in the right direction. It is actually exactly what I need, except that I like to post date my transactions for the actual date that they will be coming out of my account.

Would probably be nice if you could see that on the summary page for the both the Regular version and iPhone version. I’m sure for most people, that is the actual amount you would want to look at. (Having both totals would prob be the best solution)

Thanx a lot for the quick response.
    Keep the updates coming!!

No, Dave, ists not only you to get problems with adding or editing tags on iPhone 1.1.1… I got the same problem, it turns the mobile version useless for me and I don’t know how to fix it.

I’d like to hear from Ashwin what to do…

Thanks everybody! This product is really amazing!

    Please, keep the updates coming!!!

The current iPhone implementation is fantastic… but I do miss the ability to “Split/Itemize” my transactions as I add them. This is a feature of the full version that I use regularly, and has become a core part of my Buxfer experience. It’d be great to be able to do this on-the-go.

    Thanks so much!
