Advertisements!
August 15th, 2008 by ShashankWe have introduced advertisements on the site as part of the new release. Ads will show up in two places: a small 120×60 button on the left side, and a 468×60 banner in emails.
Let us know what you think - especially if you think the ads are invasive.

Personally I don’t like ads, but I understand that you need to received money to maintain and improve the site…

Generally speaking, I’m happier when services I rely on have a revenue model I can understand.
From that perspective, (ads++). More feedback to follow following usage.

I think that Advertisements in the place u put it is pretty annoying, move it to the right non-functional side (gmail stile), or under the tags and groups (and maybe even tips). In that way it wont annoy anyone, and i even will click on it to support you.

Ads can always be a little annoying. But if they mean I get to use for free a constantly improved and supported Buxfer for life, seeing those ads makes me really happy! And frankly they can be also useful: I just found myself a savings account with a better rate. Thanks!

The advertising is appearing on top of the menu tabs, such that I cannot access the Summary tab. There is no longer an option to make the ads go away.
Advertising is one thing, but making the site useless because of it is carrying it a bit too far.
Is there another way to get to the Summary page besides clicking on the tab?
Thanks.

Marty,
Sorry about that. It was not intentional, but seems to be some kind of bug. Can you please send us an email at support@buxfer.com with a screenshot and details of your browser/operating system?

Hey Marty,
I have fixed this issue. Please check back and let me know if it works fine for you.
And I really apologize for the inconvenience caused …

Sorry, I failed to post publicly to confirm that the issue was fixed. THANKS.
The ads were working fine on the right until approx. 8/29, however… ;-)
they have now moved down such that they cover up most of the links to Settings and New Features. I can still click the links because some of them are still exposed.
I will email a screenshot.
Thanks again,
-Marty

Yay for ads. I’m always very afraid of web services that don’t have an obvious revenue stream. Usually what happens is I come to rely on a service but they can’t make it work financially and go under. So I a bit timid on trying free services. I also would suggest some sort of premium model or a maybe a model where we pay say $3 a month (like Quicken Online) and we don’t get ads plus we get something else. I have no idea what that something else could be.

Hey Marty,
Sorry about that (again!) Things should look fine now .. I guess I should be testing more on IE6.0 before pushing out those small updates :-)

I agree with Val. It’s quite annoying the ad is placed under the menu buttons at right. I can understand this placement (there is where all the attention goes) but it makes this corner very cluttered. I would care less when the ads where placed at left under the tips. If you place them there, you can even make them bigger, I wouldn’t care.

Bart,
I don’t get your point. You think right side is more intrusive than the left? Maybe its some formatting issue with your browser, so can you email me a screenshot?

I’dont see any adds, i am filtering everything from Google with AdMuncher. I understand you need to put ads.
